This week the children have been busy making and writing Mother’s Day cards and presents. They have enjoyed listening to The Enormous Turnip story and acting it out. They have made a turnip tart. The children have also noticed that Spring has arrived in the nursery garden with lots of new buds and leaves on the trees and flowers in the garden.
This week the children have been learning information facts about penguins. They have each made an individual penguin for a classroom display. We created a life-sized emperor penguin and then measured our height against it.
We also made ice pictures by placing natural materials from the garden into containers, filling them with water and leaving them overnight to freeze. We then hung them from the nursery tree.
More photographs to follow due to camera download problems.
This week the children have been busy rehearsing for the Christmas Show and making their headdresses for their characters.
They have all made a cress sandwich using their own home grown cress.
We have ordered the growing stages of their cress seeds.
This week the children have been learning the words and actions to the songs for our Christmas show.
All children have now planted cress seeds.
Nearly all children have now been on a listening walk to help them tune into sounds.
This week the children have been very busy sorting out piles of muddled up numbers into the correct order and carefully counting lines of dinosaurs.
On Tuesday the children made an apple cake using more of the apples that we picked from the tree on the school field.
They have been enjoying the dry weather and have been outside on the grass and the climbing equipment having fun and strengthening their muscles.
The children have also enjoyed taking part in listening games such as animal and environmental lotto. They all could listen carefully and were able to name lots of the sounds that they heard.
We have had a very busy few weeks in nursery. The children all seem settled and busy now. They are beginning to make friends and they have enjoyed exploring the inside and outside areas. We have visited the school apple tree and the children enjoyed picking the apples. We baked some of the apples and tasted these at school. We also made individual apple tarts which the children took home. We are planning to make an apple cake next week.
